All In The Details

At Goldenbird Design, we aim to honor the existing qualities of a home instead of changing everything just for the sake of changing it. This sweetly classic San Francisco Victorian really embodies that approach. When we got our hands on the space, it was already oozing with existing details that you simply can’t recreate these days and that we certainly didn’t want to change. Hello, intricate crown molding!

That said, a lot of the home felt dated and tired. The charm had, simply put, been washed over with an array of bland neutrals. This was our clients’ first home that they purchased together and that they’ll be building a family in, so we couldn’t be having any of that blandness. It needed to be highly personal, highly functional and highly theirs. And it was our pleasure to bring new life to it.

A huge thank you to our dream clients who came with lots of inspiration and appreciation for every little detail. They were not afraid of a bold pattern, or a 6’ hood enclosed in zellige tile, or 50 shades of green. This was truly a partnership, as all great design is. We’ll stop talking now, because they said it best in their review. Thank you, sweet friends!

“Goldenbird Design took a blank canvas - the bones of our Victorian condo in San Francisco - and designed a home for our family that is comfortable and livable while also beautiful and elevated. McKenzy’s style is impeccable, and we so appreciate that she listens to and takes into account your tastes, lifestyle, and the history and surroundings of your home in creating the perfect design for each project. She incorporates a blend of custom, new and vintage (in our case, family heirloom) pieces in a way that makes a space feel like it’s always been that way. McKenzy brought us along for every step of the process of our remodel and design, leveraging her knowledge of the industry and sourcing unique, high quality textiles, furniture, finishes and fixtures. She personally designed the custom millwork kitchen island and primary bath vanity, creating pieces that optimize the aesthetics and function of both spaces, and presented us with options we would never have considered on our own including unique ceramic tiles from the Netherlands, bold yet classic wallpaper from English artists, an unexpected yet cohesive color palette, and inspired lighting and bathroom fixtures that could carry a room on their own. Finally, she is truly a pleasure to work with - communicative, positive, unphased by inevitable twists and turns, and an adept project manager in working with contractors and vendors throughout the process. McKenzy designs and delivers precisely what you were dreaming of for your home but couldn't fully articulate at the outset!” - Anne & Charlie
